The Triadic Heart of Shiva
Kaula Tantricism of Abhinavagupta in the Non-Dual Shaivism of Kashmir

This is a well-done, scholarly exposition of the works of Abhinavagupta. Abhinavagupta is one of the greatest exponents of non-dual, Kashmir Shaivism, and he is considered to be an incarnation of Shiva by adherents of this faith. Abhinavagupta was a prolific writer. His literary works probably date from 990 to 1014 C.E.

In an Appendix to his book, the author, Muller-Ortega, includes a complete translation of Abhinavagupta's esoteric work, The Short Gloss on the Supreme: The Queen of the Three Paratrishikalaghuvrittih. The book itself provides an extensive commentary on Abhinavagupta's works (including many quotations from a variety of his works), so that the translated work appearing in the Appendix can be read with understanding.
